An industrial transformation driving decarbonization<\/h2>\n

HEF Group decided to embark on a decarbonization initiative in 2021 within the context of internal transformation. To achieve this, the group joined the first Decarbonization Accelerator based on the “ACT Step-by-Step” approach.
“With the support of Bpifrance, ADEME, and TranSyLience (an environmental policy consulting firm) for two years, we were able to build our decarbonization strategy. Since 2021, TranSyLience has been HEF’s partner for all environmental structuring and CSR initiatives.” J. Th\u00e9venon, Safety, Environment, and Energy Manager.
Initially implemented on a site near the corporate headquarters in Andr\u00e9zieux-Bouth\u00e9on, this initiative proved limited due to the group’s vertical integration (in-house manufacturing of consumables and equipment). To overcome this constraint, the scope was expanded to include all the group\u2019s sites. This comprehensive approach allowed the management to take charge of the project and initiate a transformation on an international scale, covering 90 industrial sites worldwide.
This approach allowed the group to measure and understand its carbon footprint, as well as identify risks and opportunities related to climate change. However, since its technologies rely on metals and minerals, the need to consider other environmental impacts, beyond climate change, led HEF to adopt Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This methodology allows the quantification of fifteen environmental impacts of a product or process throughout its life cycle. The deployment of this methodology is currently being carried out by a newly recruited internal team dedicated to environmental topics.

The first LCA project focuses on one of the group\u2019s historical technologies, salt bath nitriding, and its transition to a circular economy, with results expected by 2025. Other technologies within the group will then be studied to include environmental considerations in strategic decisions.
The support from Bpifrance and ADEME helped structure the group\u2019s environmental approach and build a strong, lasting partnership with a consulting firm. This collaboration allows the Group to move in the right direction with the help of an external partner who can challenge its choices and actions. <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\t
